Our commitment

Hackney Wolves Basketball CIC is committed to providing a safe, positive and inclusive basketball environment for children and young people. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. Any concern about a child's safety, welfare or the behaviour of an adult or another young person should be reported.
Immediate danger

If a child or another person is in immediate danger, or there is a medical emergency, call 999. Do not wait for a response from the club before contacting the emergency services.

You can contact Helen if you are worried about something that has happened at a session, fixture, event, online or elsewhere in connection with the club. Parents, carers, players, staff, volunteers and members of the public may raise a concern.
What to report

Please report anything that may affect a child's safety or welfare, including possible abuse or neglect, bullying, discrimination, harassment, inappropriate communication, unsafe coaching practice, unexplained injuries, concerning changes in behaviour, or conduct that makes a child feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
What happens after a report

The club will listen, make an appropriate record, protect confidentiality as far as possible and take action in line with safeguarding responsibilities. Information may be shared with Basketball England, children's social care, the police or another relevant authority where this is necessary to protect a child or another person. We will not promise absolute confidentiality where someone may be at risk.

Communication and online safety

Adults working with the club must follow approved safeguarding and communication arrangements. One-to-one private communication between an adult in a position of trust and a junior player should not take place through personal social-media or messaging accounts. Club communication should use approved channels and normally include a parent or carer where appropriate.
